The owner researched and directed much of the work himself and called upon the best-known local and regional experts available to install the wells, piping and heat pump equipment. The heat pump is rated at 5.4\u00a0<abbr title=\"tonnes\">t<\/abbr> (6\u00a0ton) and is at least twice the capacity required for a house of this size.<\/p>\n<p>A key issue with vertical well heat pump systems is compacting the well piping with the right combination of sand and grout to give the maximum insulation value around the piping. There can be significant heat loss from vertical well piping and therefore protecting the piping with the right amount insulation is important.
