The building is <a \"href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Superinsulation\">super-insulated<\/a>, the bermed side walls (on 3 sides) calculated to have R52. Passive solar design reduces the cost of heating and a 1.2-<abbr title=\"metre\">m<\/abbr> (4&prime;) overhang reduces problems with overheating in summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">La maison est divis\u00e9e en quatre zones \u00e9quip\u00e9es de circuits de glycol install\u00e9s dans le plancher, le rev\u00eatement en damier ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment choisi pour \u00e9quilibrer l\u2019absorption de chaleur (carreaux fonc\u00e9s) et la r\u00e9flexion de la lumi\u00e8re (carreaux clairs). Le b\u00e2timent, qui mesure 72 pi sur 36 pi, a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u pour que la lumi\u00e8re atteigne et \u00e9claire enti\u00e8rement les chambres arri\u00e8re, en hiver.<\/p>\n<p>Aucun point n\u00e9gatif \u00e0 signaler, si ce n\u2019est la difficult\u00e9 de trouver des entrepreneurs dispos\u00e9s \u00e0 entreprendre des travaux si peu conventionnels. L\u2019id\u00e9e initiale d\u2019une construction souterraine a d\u00fb \u00eatre abandonn\u00e9e pour cette raison. Dans l\u2019ensemble, les propri\u00e9taires trouvent leur maison tr\u00e8s confortable et \u00e9conomique, malgr\u00e9 le co\u00fbt assez \u00e9lev\u00e9 du propane qui sert occasionnellement d\u2019appoint pour le chauffage et dans la cuisine.
