Built in 2000, this home was constructed with comfort and efficiency in mind. The home is well insulated, has an in-floor heating system (heated by instant hot water) as the primary heating source, and sourced local and recycled wood for the construction. It has cork and finished concrete in the basement as well.
To offset the costs of in-floor heating use, the owners decided to go with a biomass unit, and found Tulikivi masonry heaters to be very efficient and to provide a comfortable, consistent heat. They were the first in the region to install a Tulikivi, and are now a local seller, as they are so impressed with the product. They only use 2–3 cord of wood per year to help heat this 510 m2 (5500 sq. ft.) home. The stove is low maintenance, requiring the ashes be cleaned out once per year.
